Student Government of Woodrow Wilson High School establishes Internet presence

Executive Committee chair announces "e-Government Initiative"

03/23/04 -- Students interested in keeping up with the activities of their elected and appointed representatives will be better able to do so now that the Student Government of Woodrow Wilson High School has launched its first-ever website.

In addition to offering information about the Student Government's objectives and purposes, the site, http://studgov.tripod.com, contains the Student Government's revolutionary new vision statement, as well as a catalogue of agendas, minutes, and resolutions, and a comprehensive list of the organization's members. Members will be able to view their committee assignments via the website, and can also stay aware of what's happening when they're absent.

The site is the brainchild of Executive Committee Chairman Joseph L. Chambers, who launched it as part of his "e-Government Initiative." The project's goal is to unite the students with their government by creating a common meeting place.

"It's not really practical for the entire student body to come watch us meet," Chambers said. "What really counts, however, is that the people and the government are brought together."

Chambers encouraged those interested in student affairs to visit the site, calling it an innovative way to observe what the Student Government is doing.

"If you really wanted to listen to us talk, you could," Chambers said. "I just happen to think that this is a much better way for people to follow the ideas that sometimes get lost in the talking. I definitely think the site merits a visit."
